Is Splash Mountain Promoting Racism? The Princess And The Frog Coming!

Off the heels of smaller regional parks renaming their roller coasters after controversy about their names and themes, Disney’s Splash Mountain is in the spotlight. Based on the movie Song of The South this Disney classic is in hot water. Song of The South is based on the tellings of Uncle Remus stories as adapted by Joel Chandler Harris, and stars James Baskett as Uncle Remus.

The film takes place in the south right at the end of the Civil War and the abolition of slavery. The movie follows Johnny, a young boy, who is visiting his grandmother’s plantation for an extended stay. Johnny follows Uncle Remus, one of the caretakers of the plantation, and listens to his adventures about Br’er Rabbit, Br’er Fox, and Br’er Bear. Johnny is educated through the stories on how to deal with the obstacles he is experiencing on the plantation.

Disney could easily replace the theme of the mountain with The Princes and The Frog with a minimal renovation. This theme would allow Disney to become more diverse with it’s quest to be politically correct.
